** These are general instruction and all heaters may not require the same steps or have the same components as indicated in these instructions.

  1. Turn heater off and let cool for at least 30 minutes before beginning to replace the Pilot.
  2. Locate the pilot using the illustrated parts list of the Owners Manual.
  3. Using two 7/16 wrenches loosen the connection between the pilot tube and the pilot.
  4. Warning: If there is not a second wrench “FLAT” location provided on the ODS/Pilot tube extra care must be taken to not over torque the nut and damage the pilot tube.
  5. Remove the igniter cable from the pilot.
  6. Using a 5/16 wrench, remove the thermocouple wire from the gas control valve.
  7. Note: Some ODS/Pilot assemblies will have a thermopile pre-installed in bracket.
Please follow the instruction below for Thermopile wire removal and replacement.**
  8. Remove and retain (for re-assembly) the fasteners that hold the pilot to the pilot bracket. These fasteners will either be screws or nuts.
  9. Now remove the pilot from the heater assembly.
  10. Install the new pilot assembly exactly as the original using the original fasteners and any additional pieces such as shielding that may have been present and removed during the disassembly process.
  11. Thread thermocouple wire to the valve and tighten the connector to ¼ turn past finger tight. Care must be taken to not over tighten this fitting because it may damage the connector.
  12. Using the same two 7/16 wrenches carefully reconnect the connection between the pilot tube and the pilot.
  13. Warning: If there is not a second wrench “FLAT” location provided on the ODS/Pilot tube extra care must be taken to not over torque the nut and damage the pilot tube.
Note: Some ODS/Pilot assemblies will have a thermopile pre-installed in bracket.
Please follow the instruction below for Thermopile wire removal and replacement.**
  14. Connect the igniter cable to the electrode.
  15. If your appliance was removed from the gas supply you must now reconnect the gas supply to your appliance and test for any leaks using an approved gas leak detection solution.
  16. Complete the installation by following the installation instructions in the owner’s manual.
